Lovely signed vintage parure. This Sarah Coventry Woodland flight brooch and earrings set is in very good vintage condition. The set features a round brooch and matching round clip on earrings in a silver tone metal and has quite an arts and craft feel. The brooch features two deer with antlers jumping over a tree trunk with an open metal design of trees in a forest. The brooch has a strong rollover clasp but also has a hook so that it can be worn as a pendant (The chain is not included), The earrings each feature one deer without antlers with branches and leaves in a similar open metalwork design.
The overall effect is very light and airy due to the open metalwork design. Each item is signed SARAHCOV with a Copyright symbol.
It dates from 1958 but the condition is fabulous.
The whole set weighs 40 grams. The brooch measures 5.8 cm in diameter. The earrings measure 3 cm across.
Presented in a beautiful satin drawstring bag.
Despite the ‘designer’ name Sarah Coventry vintage costume jewellery is not made by one designer. Sarah Coventry was the name of a company based in the US (1949 – 1980s) who had emigrated from Coventry in England, UK. They employed different designers to produce their jewellery. They adopted a method similar to Avon in that they used house parties to sell their ranges “for the woman who dares to be different.” Some pieces are made in Canada or the UK.
