Lovely vintage necklace. This amethyst carnival glass necklace features round faceted beads linked together with chain links. There is a secure hook clasp.
Carnival glass was produced since the early 1900s. This involved a process where coloured glass as coated with an iridescent glaze called Iridill. The glass got it’s name as it was given out at Carnivals as prizes. Not to be confused with aurora borealis coating carnival glass is rarer. You can hold the beads up to the light to see the colour of the original glass.
In the case of this necklace amethyst glass was used so this necklace has a lovely purple tone. The overall effect is quite light and delicate due to the iridescence and the chain links. The glass and chain links are both in very good vintage condition. I think this may date from the 1950s due to the style of the chain and hook fastener.
The necklace weighs 29 grams. It measures 52 cm. Presented in a beautiful satin drawstring bag.
