Fabulous vintage brooch probably dating from the 1950s. This West Germany black cameo mourning brooch is a drop brooch in the Victorian revival style. It features large oval black glass and heamatite cameo set in a filigree brass surround studded with claw set black rhinestones and tiny faux pearls. The main oval broach hangs from a cross bar element with three filigree round flower elements each with a black rhinestone.
This would have been part of a larger set (we have seen pendants, earrings and smaller brooches in exactly the same style. Only the earrings appear to be stamped West Germany).
The brooch very 3 dimensional and it has quite a chunky feel. The brass filigree surround is in very good condition and the rhinestones and pearls do not show any wear. This is an unusual drop brooch and really is a statement piece. It’s very goth in style. The black rhinestones have a purple sheen to them.
The design is filigree work and it has a sturdy rollover clasp pin in very good condition for its age. The back and front of the brooch have a few signs of discolouration.
The brooch weighs 20 grams. It measures 6cm from the top to the bottom and is 4.5 cm at it widest. Presented in a beautiful satin drawstring bag.
