Lovely convertible vintage brooch or pendant. This Sarah Coventry imperial brooch is in very good vintage condition. The brooch was designed for the Imperial Collection in 1974. It features an antiqued silver tone cross shaped setting with a faux turquoise teardrop cabochon in the center, surrounded by five faux pearls and four round amethyst glass rhinestones. It has a very strong rollover brooch pin and is signed SARAHCOV with a Copyright symbol. There are a few tiny scratches on 3 of the pearls which are not noticable when worn. Tyhe brooch can also be worn as a pendant making this piece very flexible.
The brooch weighs 36 grams and measures 6 cm x 5.5 cm.
Presented in a beautiful satin drawstring bag.
Despite the ‘designer’ name Sarah Coventry vintage costume jewellery is not made by one designer. Sarah Coventry was the name of a company based in the US (1949 – 1980s) who had emigrated from Coventry in England, UK. They employed different designers to produce their jewellery. They adopted a method similar to Avon in that they used house parties to sell their ranges “for the woman who dares to be different.” Some pieces are made in Canada or the UK.
