Gorgeous vintage brooch. This garnet glass brooch is really lovely. The brooch features deep red glass stones set in a gold tone metal setting. The overall shape is of a six pronged star and the stones are claw set (so very little of the metal shows on the front). The brooch is in good vintage condition with no loose stones. There is a bit of wear on some of the glass but this is not noticeable when worn.
This brooch is not signed but I think it is a good example of fabulous work from the Czech Gablonz metal and glass artists. Let’s remind the world of the skill of the Gablonz people (in Bohemia before the war). They produced some excellent glass versions of gemstones with garnet, amethyst, amber, ruby and emerald being the most popular at the time.
The rollover clasp is well made and is very secure. It is a small and neat brooch which could be work on jumpers, coats, jackets, hats or bags. It is very versatile.
The brooch weighs 8 grams. It measures 3.8 in diameter cm at its widest. Presented in a satin drawstring bag.
