Lovely vintage brooch probably dating from the early 1900s. This Czech filigree amber glass brooch features a lovely large round cut claw set foil backed amber coloured glass stone in the centre of a filigree setting. Around the edge are four smaller claw set round crystals set in between a filigree flute. This makes the brooch very 3 dimensional ans it has quite a chunky feel due to the size of the glass pieces which really stand out. The brass filigree surround is in good condition and has a nice patina, as befits its age. This brooch celebrates the lovely work of the Czech Gablonz metal artists.
The design is open work and it has a sturdy c clasp pin is in very good condition for its age. On close inspection the central stone does have some minor marks to the foil backing but these are not noticeable when worn,
This is a lovely example of Czech craftmanship – and the amber glass is always very popular.
The brooch weighs just 15 grams. It measures 5.5 cm in diameter. Presented in a beautiful satin drawstring bag.
