Czech Edwardian filigree lapiz glass brooch

Czech Edwardian filigree lapiz glass brooch

£38.00

In stock

Adorable small vintage brooch dating from the 1910s. This Czech Edwardian filigree lapiz glass brooch features a lovely oval bezel set faux lapiz lazuli cabochon in the centre. The metal filigree base and all filigree  elements are rhodium plated which has no tarnish or wear. Two lovely flowers sit either side of the cabochon, each with a bezel set small round blue glass cabochon. There are two other filigree elements on top of the base at either end of the brooch and each side has 4 claw set blue glass cabochons. The brooch has a c clasp and a pin which is not rhodium plated. The pin is in excellent condition.

This is in excellent vintage condition and although not signed it is a classically good example of fabulous work of the Czech Gablonz metal and glass artists. Let’s remind the world of the skill of the Gablonz people (in Bohemia before the war).

The design is lovely and the deep blue against the silver , coupled with the delicate metalwork and small size make this a stand out brooch – many of the Czech filigree brooches were quite large but this is so neat. Have a look at the photos of it being worn by our model Eve.

The brooch weighs just 6 grams. It  measures 4 cm across and just over 2 cm wide.   Presented in a beautiful satin drawstring bag.

This brooch is in such good condition that I did wonder if it was a reproduction. The quality of the components and workmanship is outstanding.
