Lovely vintage brooch dating from the 1920s or 30s. This art deco carnelian glass brooch is quite unusual and is in fantastic condition. The design features 4 deep claw set carnelian glass cabochons surrounded by 4 small sparkly clear crystal rhinestones or ‘strass’. There is also a central small rhinestone. The brooch is very well made and the design is such that only a very small part of the gold tone brass setting is showing.
The the quality is unmistakable and I think this is a Czech brooch – glass made to resemble red gemstones were difficult to make but the quality and condition of these is wonderful. The back of the brooch features a solid backing and a spring ring clasp. From the side you can see how deep the brooch is. A lovely and unusual reminder of the quality of bohemian glass from the art deco period.
The brooch weighs 7 grams. It measures 3.5 cm x 2.8 cm at its widest. Presented in a beautiful satin drawstring bag.
