Delightful vintage brooch. This antique Victorian turquoise glass brooch features a beautiful faux turquoise cabochon set in a gold tone metal setting, and surrounded by 21 tiny faux turquoise stones.. The overall shape is an oval and the smaller stones are claw set (so very little of the metal shows on the front). The brooch is in very good vintage condition with no loose stones.
This brooch is not signed but it is a good example of fabulous work from the Czech Gablonz metal and glass artists. They produced some excellent glass versions of gemstones with garnet, amethyst, amber, ruby and emerald being the most popular at the time. Turquoise glass like this was made by adding foil and this is a lovely example.
The clasp is well made and is very secure. It has a c-clasp and a hinged fixing, The pin extends beyond the edge of the brooch – as was customary for that time period. It is a small and neat brooch which could be work on jumpers, coats, jackets, hats or bags. It is very versatile.
The brooch weighs 6 grams. It measures 3.4 x 2.4 cm in diameter. Presented in an organza drawstring bag.
